Put up sun sails

The most popular form of put up sun sails are even or uneven shapes of triangles and rectangles. Of course sun sails can be given as many angles as desired but the corresponding number of fixing points for the ropes has to be assured as well. From a static point of view, more than four angles are not necessary but can be created for special design reasons e.g. in star-shapes or other polygons.

Since heavy pull forces apply for the edges of a stretched sun sail these have to particularly strong. In any case reinforced edges and double-knitted wide seams are necessary in order to withstand the heavy strains for a longer time. For fixing the ropes eyelets or metal rings applied to the edges of the sun sail are used. In order to distribute the pull forces from the edges to the entire cloth they are often made in a conical shape which means with a slight vault to the inside. However, when stretching a sun sail it should be put attention to an even angle of the rope towards both bordering sides since otherwise uneven pull forces may occur. And waterproof sun sails must provide enough inclination for the rain water to drain. (Belastung, Regenwasser, Ablaufmöglichkeiten)

Triangular sun sails

Of course a triangular sun sail is the type of sun sail which is the easiest to be fixed as they have only to be mounted at three points. Furthermore, they are highly decorative since triangular shapes are seldom to find in architecture than rectangular ones which make them bring more variety and life to gardens and houses.

They are particularly well suited to donate shadow to the entrance area in houses or to certain corners of a terrace. For this, two sides of the sun sail can be fixed to the wall and the third one to the ground or at a higher point. Also as side protection from unwelcome glances or from the wind on sites where no crossbeams are available right-angled triangular sun sails can be fixed without problems. Simply fix it to the wall and to the ground and you will receive a decorative privacy and wind protection for balcony and garden terrace. (Gartenterrasse, Windschutzwand)

Rectangular Sun Sails

Rectangular sun sails are as well available in most various shapes: square, rectangular, trapezium or rhombus. Depending on which shape is most suitable for your purpose or the given architectonic circumstances one can have any polygonal form designed. Rectangular sun sails with two parallels can perfectly be used as a connection between two house walls, e.g. to roof over side entrances or create a shady parking lot. By means of fixing points varying in height even a common sun sail may be given an extraordinary appearance. Furthermore, an inclination of at least 10% is required for an excellent draining of rainwater and to avoid water bags which may damage the material.
