Fabrics for Sun Sails |
||
Fabrics used for the production of sun sails have to be able to withstand highest strains. As outdoor sun protection systems they are exposed to weather, high UV radiation, humidity and dirt as well as to strong mechanical forces. This is why choosing a high quality cloth is the best thing to enjoy the sun sail for a long time. (Sonnensegel, Stoffe, Belastungen, UV-Strahlung) Such heavy strains in combination with high aesthetic demands are met by specially treated synthetic fibers such as acryl and polyester. These are the basic fibers which most technical textiles are made of due to their resistance, their capability to withstand tearing, rotting and UV radiation and their variety in processing. Thus sun sails cannot only be knitted but welded and glued as well. By doing so the single parts of the sun sail fabric are inseparably connected with each other. (Acryl, Polyester, Sonnensegelstoffe) A special procedure during fabrication where the respective color is directly added to the produced fiber makes them almost 100 % light proof. Even after many years of sun, rain and wind the color will not bleach. The variety in colors is of course huge. Traditionally, white and beige sun sail are preferred but nature colors such as terra or sand or bright yellow and orange are popular. Stripes and other patterns are rarely found at sun sails but for sure there are ways and means to meet individual extra demands. (Spinndüsenfärbung, Farbauswahl) Furthermore their surface is impregnated water a dirt repelling with an additional coating which makes them easy to clean and partly, by means of nano technology, are self-cleaning. Various manufacturing and weaving technologies provide the particular properties to sun sail fabrics. Depending on fiber density a sun sail fabric can be windproof or breathable, waterproof or water-repelling. However, as most sun sails are applied for sun protection purposes only additional features are spared in favor of price and weight. Moreover, breathable fabrics are less sensitive to wind. For particularly large sun sails which are for example used for swimming pools or in the garden and applied all through the year it is recommendable to choose a so-called screen fabric whose coarse meshes provide little surface to wind but airy shadow to the user. Also for shadowing glassed surfaces such as in conservatories sun sail clothes should be absolutely breathable in order to avoid heat accumulation between pane and sun sail.(Sonnenschutz, Garten, Wintergarten) |
