How to care and clean sun sails

Sun sail fabrics are designed in a way to require only little care. In summer they continuously catch dust and rain, bird droppings or pollen, leaves and other things flying around, however, they let go these things very quick. (Stoffe, Sonnensegel)

A dirt and water repelling impregnation makes sure that dirt cannot get stuck and gets washed away in a heavier rainfall. Despite this one should check regularly if tenacious stains have occurred in order to remove them in time.(Imprägnierung, Verschmutzungen)

It is also important to have a look from time to time if the sun sail has holes or tears, probably caused by a cat‘s claws or other heavy and sharp thing. If this is the case a soon and professional fixing will prevent bigger damage.

A fixed sun sail may best be cleaned when it is stretched. Often it is impossible to find an alternative for washing and the own washing machine will be overstrained with this task. By gently tapping the sail with a soft broom from below many dust particles can be loosened and removed with a powerful water jet from the hose. For a more intensive cleansing the wet sail can be foamed with soapsuds, again with a sponge or soft broom only (you best think of how you clean your car), since too hard brushes or tough rubbing can damage the impregnation and the waterproof or dirt resistant protective cover of the sun sail may vanish. Afterwards rinse and let dry. For very reluctant stains it is recommendable to use special awning detergents but before the origin of the dirt should be investigated.(Reinigung, Sonnensegel, Tiefenreinigung, Seifenlauge)

Smaller sun sails can be cleaned more easily if they are just taken off and allow to soak for some hours in soapsuds. From time to time a little bit swinging and soon the dirt of summer should be removed. Also harder stains should not be rubbed but perhaps frequently soaked with foam. Some sun sails can take machine washing. Please note the care tips by the producer.(Faltsegel, Pflegehinweise)

After your sun sail is spick and span and dry again you can send it into winter break and allow it a rest.
